The Goblins Among Us: Week 2 Story
An alternate version of Goblin City with a twisted prequel.
Long ago on the island of Ceylon, men rule the land with an iron fist. Women were expected to bear the child, care for the child, and spend the rest of their lives working to supply food for the people. While men were to eat, sleep, repeat and do what they please with women. On one cold evening, the women gathered around to pray and hope for a better future. A witch appeared and grant them a wish. A woman stood up and said "the death of men." And just like that, all men fell ill with an incurable disease. But, with every wish comes a price. The witch turned all the women into terrifying hungry goblins with an uncontrollable hunger for human flesh. With that, the goblins attacked. What the men didn't know was the goblins were able to shape-shift. Each of the goblins shape-shifted into the most terrifying looking beast. One by one, the men were eaten alive. Each of the men screamed for help while others accepted their death. A fairy appeared to help the men, but it was too late. She cursed the goblins with one weakness, water. The goblins were unable to leave the island of Ceylon and lived the rest of their lives waiting for more food. Slowly, more and more of them die from hunger until there were only 50 left.
One day, a ship full of men came across Ceylon. The goblins had an eye for only one thing, the ship. After all, it is their only hope of escaping Ceylon. With complete resilience suppressing their hunger, the goblins shape-shifted into children. They started screaming for help telling the sailors their ship was wrecked and they were the only ones capable of swimming ashore. The children begged for the men to carry them on board as they claim they were traumatized by the water. The sailors were sympathetic carrying them one at a time allowing the children on the ship. As the ship sails to the mainland, the goblins' hunger kicked into high gear. They attacked the sailors one by one imprisoning them as their food supply. As they reached the mainland, there were no more sailors. The goblins shape-shifted to blend into society. All 50 of them went on their separate ways, they learned how to be discrete and live among us.
Author's note: I am typically not a really dark person, but I wanted to do something out of my comfort zone. I was inspired to tell a prequel of the story on why the goblins were all she-goblins and how they became goblin. I wanted to explain why goblins had a weakness for water as well. The beginning was a little bit dark but I enjoyed adding a dark prequel to the already-dark original story. Although the original plot focused on the sailors, I wanted a version more focused on the goblins. In my version, the goblins had a larger goal for their future than just to eat: to go to the mainland. I view the goblins as more intelligent and sharp-witted beings. I ended my version by having the goblins living among us humans, eating us one by one and covering it, sort of like a Twilight/ Vampire Diaries/ True Blood type of world.

Hi Amy! I think was a really creative and informative retelling of the original story. I really like reading prequels; they are so useful in understanding more about the characters of the main story. In this case, knowing why the Goblins were female and why they hated water added more layers to the original. I agree with you about not typically enjoying scary stories, but thanks for sharing this one!
ReplyDeleteI love how you wrote this as a prequel to the original goblin story, giving a reason why there was an island full of goblins. That girl really said "kill ALL MEN," and the witch was like "Aight chill," I appreciated the explanation it was super fun. I love how you gave them weakness as well because it explains then why they are stuck on the island as well!
